Orphans Situation in Homa Bay County

Homa Bay County has the highest number of orphans in Kenya, with 11,069 orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC) struggling daily without adequate support. This situation is compounded by poverty, with a county poverty level at 40%, and an HIV prevalence rate of 26%, nearly 4.5 times higher than the national average. These factors significantly contribute to the vulnerability of children who have lost one or both parents.

According to recent statistics, Homa Bay leads the country in the proportion of double orphans, with 3% of children under 18 having lost both parents. Many children face the added hardship of living without any biological parent, especially in rural areas where support systems are weaker. The lack of adequate shelter, nutrition, healthcare, and education considerably affects these children's wellbeing and prospects.

At HD-CBO ,we offer scholarships, mentorship, school supplies, and emotional support to ensure orphaned children access and complete quality education, laying the foundation for a brighter future.
